Handbuilt in California, it features a high maximum SPL of 135 dB at 50 Hz and 160 dB at 1 kHz, and a wide, unhyped frequency response of 30 Hz to 15 kHz.
The R-10 utilizes a standard XLR 3-pin output and does not require phantom power. Its figure-8 polar pattern allows pickup of sounds from the front and back of the mic, while maximizing sound rejection from both sides. This provides a directional focus in front of the microphone and allows room reflections behind the mic to be captured.
The 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon element is protected from vibrations via an internal shockmount. A three-layer windscreen system tames plosives, strong bursts of air, and proximity-induced bass buildup. The wiring of the ribbon results in humbucking, which aids in preventing noise produced through electromagnetic interference.
